Asher Hale: “I’ll have a lot to say, when I’m ready to say it, but now is not the time.”
Hale: The bright side of the recent events is that I am now free to wrestle [Davey Richards] sometime soon!”
Jake Atlas: “‘I’ve always been famous. It’s just no one knew it yet.’”
Ari Sterling: “Alex Zayne > Ari Sterling”
Sterling also posted a video joking about his match on last night’s 205 Live airing after he was released.
Desmond Troy: “Life is tough, but it’s about time I got some adversity to see what I’m made of. What a way to start the weekend. Thank you @TripleH and @WWENXT for the opportunity. There’s power in the name and with a name like Denzel Dejournette I can’t and won’t lose!”
Troy also wrote: “Man the love and the well wishes I got from people were heart warming and some unexpected!  Thank you”
Kona Reeves: “Thank you @WWE @WWENXT!!”

Kyle O’Reilly tweeted about the NXT releases: “The word of the day is ‘Bummer’. It was a bummer to see my friends lose their jobs but I take solace in knowing they will all end up OK and doing great things. Still though, major bummer.”
Kushida called Sterling a talented wrestler and wished him good luck: “@AriSterlingWWE is a really really talented wrestler,I think.Hope to see you in someday again.GOOD LUCK!!”

This week’s episode of WWE After the Bell looked back at SummerSlam 1992.
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded The Undertaker vs. John Cena from the August 7, 2003 episode of SmackDown, Kane vs. Finlay from SummerSlam 2007, and Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville in a no DQ match from SummerSlam 2020.
Other Wrestling
Lady Frost has been announced for the Women’s Invitational Cup at the NWA’s Empower PPV. Tootie Lynn, Jamie Senegal, and Chelsea Green have also been announced for the match. It will feature 10 wrestlers in total, with the winner advancing to challenge for the NWA Women’s World Championship at the NWA’s 73rd anniversary PPV. Empower is taking place at the Chase Park Plaza hotel in St. Louis on Saturday, August 28. NWA 73 will take place at the same venue the next night.
On yesterday’s episode of Extra Power, Tyrus defeated Da Pope to win the NWA Television title.
Rey Horus vs. Demonic Flamita in a no DQ match will take place on the ROH TV episode that premieres the weekend of Saturday, August 21.
In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Chris Jericho discussed the match he had against Nick Gage on Dynamite: “Well, I’m not being egotistical when I say, ‘Of course it was my idea and of course I was fine with it’ because I thought of it. I booked the whole match as well. You never thought you’d see Chris Jericho in that type of match, maybe not on TNT, but why wouldn’t you see Chris Jericho in that type of match? Because I’ve done every other match! You know, go back to the book. I had the first ever barbed wire match in Canadian history in 1993 against Beef Wellington and did the thumbtack bump with Moxley in the Ambrose Asylum Match and all that type of stuff.
Jericho also said he’s willing to do any match if the story fits, but he probably won’t ever have a death match again: “If the story fits, I’ll do it — because it is all about storytelling. Obviously it’s not something I would want to do every night or probably will ever do again but when you’re talking about the story that we’re telling, it was perfect for it. And I think that match was a classic in its genre. I think it might even be the most-watched death match of all time in the fact that we had 1.2 million people watching it. Show me another death match that had that type of viewership. So it really did do what we wanted it to do, which was kind of extend this storyline and create a stir, and create a buzz. So like I said, was it something that I would ever volunteer to do again? Probably not. But was it something that completely was 1000 percent approved and basically thought of by me? Well, guilty as charged.”
Paul Wight spoke to The Ring Report about CM Punk and Daniel Bryan potentially coming to AEW:

I’m excited about it. I don’t really know. I’ve heard, of course, some backstage scuttlebutt. I’m friends with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk both. I think if either one of those guys made a serious commitment to come to AEW, they would blow the roof off the industry. I think both those guys are incredible talents and they have a lot to offer any company that they join.

Both of them will fit and like how they’re treated much more in AEW than they will anywhere else. There’s a lot more freedom for guys like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk to really excel and give the fans what they love most about them. There’s very little micromanaging in AEW. There’s a lot of trust in your professionalism and knowing who you are as a talent and what you bring to the table. There’s a lot of freedom to really amplify that and bring out the most for the fans. Personally, from where I’m sitting, I think it would be an incredible opportunity for Phil and Daniel to come here to AEW. If they do, that’s fantastic.

On Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry commented on Friday’s NXT releases:

I just saw, somebody said, ‘NXT has just been released by the WWE.’ And I giggled a little bit. It wasn’t a laugh, it was a [giggles]. That shouldn’t be a thing, man. I shouldn’t giggle at that, but the point about it is that there have been so many releases that people are starting to look at, ‘Damn man, the writing’s on the wall. I could be out of here at any time. Maybe I need to focus on job security. Maybe I need to go ahead and take a preemptive strike and not re-sign, and go somewhere else.’

Japan, Impact, AEW, ROH, MLW. Like, there’s places to go work. Do you want to be a part of something that’s already well-established, or do you want to go somewhere and help make a company better?

It depends on the talent, but it looks like from an NXT standpoint, nobody’s safe. That’s what it looks like to me after last night.

During her appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Cassie Lee (formerly known as Peyton Royce) said she feels like The IIconics being broken up in WWE was partially her fault:

I wanted to go singles. There was just things that I wanted to take off of my bucket list as a singles competitor. I vocalized that to [Billie] in like January last year. But I didn’t do anything about it. I just told her where I was at. I didn’t go and try and get us broken up or something like that.

This was in the [Performance Center] era, and [Billie] was out for a week or something. So I had this random singles match, I don’t even remember who it was against. And Vince loved it. He said to me, ‘You’re so good!’ Like, what are we doing? And so I just said to him, ‘Look, if it is possible in the future plans, I’m not saying right now, but in the future, I would like to see what I can do on my own.’ Because I’m so comfortable with [Billie], I feel like we can conquer the world together, but I wanted to see what I could do for myself.

And then so many people were like, ‘Oh it was so stupid for them to break you up!’ and, ‘Why did they break you up? You were so good together!’ And then I’m just like, I feel like that’s my fault, because I wanted to push myself and see what I was capable of. But then, I don’t know, that might have been the worst decision that I made, because nothing ever happened.

Rebel was the guest on this week’s episode of AEW Unrestricted.
