“This one nation conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done and not just to get Brexit done but to unite this country,” Johnson said.
Trump at the time congratulated Johnson on his party’s election gains and announced on Twitter that “Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT.”
“This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the E.U. Celebrate Boris!” Trump also tweeted.
According to Reuters, Britain is aiming to have the trade deal secured with the United States shortly after Brexit is accomplished.
One source told British media that “some potential dates have been floated” for the meeting between Johnson and Trump “in mid-January but nothing has yet been formally agreed,” according to Reuters.
“But it is clear that both sides want to make it happen some time in early 2020,” the source reportedly added.
Some government insiders in Britain have also reportedly expressed concerns about a visit between the two leaders amid ongoing impeachment proceedings into Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.
