OGC Nice coach Lucien Favre sets target for new sporting director

Nice take on Nantes on Sunday in what appears to be an extremely decisive fixture for Lucien Favre and his team.

Ahead of the game, the former Borussia Dortmund manager talked about the need for the club’s new sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, who joined The Gym from Ligue 1 rivals Lens just a fortnight ago.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Favre did not hide his relief to see the vacant role getting occupied as he felt that the new sporting director would make the manager’s job much easier. As quoted by RMC Sport, the Nice boss said:

“We spoke for a very long time. It was very interesting. We were all aware that we needed a sporting director, and it’s very important because there is naturally a lot of work as the club is in the process of structuring itself. His arrival is very, very important.

“It’s a relief because now there’s a sporting director. That helps a lot. He has a big job to do, that’s clear. I hope he can meet all the players, he needs to meet people now to take stock.”

Since the start of the 2022/23 season, Favre’s side has had multiple setbacks. Consequently, they stand 13th on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches in Ligue 1. Despite rumours of a dismissal a few weeks ago, Nice have continued to keep faith in Favre, who needs to produce favourable results in the coming weeks for the sake of his future at the French club.
