Montpellier striker Elye Wahi on future: “We’ll speak at the end of the season.”

Montpellier forward Elye Wahi, who is in action tonight against Marseille, recently became the second player to hit 20 Ligue 1 goals before turning 20 – his birthday is today – with only Kylian Mbappé having reached that figure before him.

Overall, the French youth international has seven goals in his 15 league appearances so far this season, already just three off the tally he posted up through the entirety of last season. Wahi, who joined the Hérault club in 2018 from the Caen youth academy, has impressed in his versatility across the frontline and clinical finishing to earn a place among France’s brightest forward talents.

In an interview with L’Équipe ahead of tonight’s game, the striker notably spoke about his future – with reports of interest from Arsenal having emerged later in the day. The Gunners have been keeping an eye on the striker’s performances for the last few months and join a host of European clubs chasing Wahi.

“For now, I’m at Montpellier. We’ll see what the future has in store for me. We’ll speak with those involved at the end of the season. Right now, I’m concentrating on my club. But if I can stay at Montpellier until 2025 [his contract expiration] it would be a pleasure.”
