FIFA have launched a probe into French international and central defender Eliaquim Mangala’s transfer to Manchester City from FC Porto from 2014.
This transfer is being investigated owing to a possible breach in third party ownership rules, with Doyen Sports having paid £2m in 2011 for the player to move to Porto from Standard Liege, making £10.6m from Mangala’s move to England three years later.
Doyen Sports do not believe they have broken TPO rules, because, at the time of these goings on, there was little to no FIFA or UEFA legislation in place against third party ownership.
If FIFA finds this deal to have in any way broken the rulers of the day, then it is FC Porto who are facing punishment, possibly in the form of a transfer embargo, and not Doyen Sports.
