Speaking to L’Équipe, France boss Didier Deschamps moved to put young French central defender Aymeric Laporte back in his place after the Bilbao man recently claimed that he would elect to play for Spain if he was not called up soon by France.
Deschamps had the following to say on Laporte’s words:
“No. Nothing shocks me today. I try to understand. I am not fixated on him. Aside from that, the lobbying… In a case like his, if I pick him, people will say that I have given in to popular pressure. And if I do not take him, people will say that I have missed a trick. I will take him the day that I am convinced that he can add something for us.”
