Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega for the Impact World title Friday in the first-ever match on AEW Rampage, ending his four-month reign as champion.

The finish of the match had The Young Bucks out, introducing a chair into the ring. As the referee was distracted by Don Callis, Christian fought off a One Winged Angel attempt by Omega and instead planted him with the killswitch on the chair, pinning Omega to win the Impact World Championship.

Cage won’t have to wait long for his first title defense as he will face Brian Myers in the main event of Emergence, an Impact Plus special that will be taped this weekend to air next Friday. Myers won a battle royal on Thursday’s Impact TV show to earn the opportunity.

Cage has been the main champion in Impact before, holding the NWA World title twice when the company when it was known as TNA. He spent several years there after first leaving WWE in late-2005 before eventually returning in 2009.

Omega and Cage will do battle again at next month’s AEW All Out as Cage will try to take Omega’s AEW World title. Omega will defend the AAA Mega title on Saturday in Mexico at AAA’s TripleMania.
