AEW Officially Signs Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Update on All Out Commentary Team

All Elite Wrestling has officially announced the signing of Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez as the newest member of the fledgling promotion’s growing broadcast team.

Mendez has a background in e-sports announcing, and made his AEW commentary debut at Fyter Fest earlier this summer. He performance was mostly well-received by both fans and critics alike, especially considering it was his first time calling a major pro wrestling event.

Right now the plan is for Excalibur, Jim Ross and “Goldenboy” Mendez to be the three-man commentary team for AEW television starting on October 2. The new hire will also be on the call for Saturday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view in Chicago.

As for legendary announcer Tony Schiavone, who was officially announced in a somewhat confusing manner earlier this week, he will be working backstage as a producer and in various roles for the company, but will at times also call matches. At Cody’s Starrcast panel on Thursday evening, Schiavone excitedly confirmed that he and Jim Ross will call matches together again at some point.
