Thanks to Ali of CatchClub for sending this in:
Hello,
I’m Ali from CatchClub, a French Wrestling media. I was invited in London by 2K for the WWE 2K20 Press Tour mid-October and i got to interview NXT UK Superstar Tyler Bate. Here are a few highlights of the interview. Thank you.
Tyler Bate about his training :
I started training in Netherton in a small unit, with a man called Kevin O’Neill. He was my first trainer. Then along the way I met people like Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, Dave Mastiff. Also the Hunter Brothers who actually played a big part in my training as well. I wrestled these guys quite a lot on local shows, and it helped me progress a lot faster than a lot of other wrestlers normally would do, I think.
How he built his wrestling style :
I like to think that I have taken small pieces of so many different styles of wrestling. I like to take things from the classic British style of wrestling. Like the hold for hold technical style. I take things from guys like Johnny Saint. And then I look to nineties All Japan style wrestling, Mitsuharu Misawa is a big inspiration for my style of wrestling as well.
Getting the call for NXT UK :
I was very excited but at the same time very curious. Because there wasn’t really anything set in stone of what we were going to be doing. NXT UK didn’t exist. It was just a whole bunch of British guys, getting signed all at once, and going into the unknown. And just kind of improvising our way through WWE, and just hoping that one day the hard work pays off.
His goals in NXT UK :
As far as NXT UK goes, Trent and I still have to get the NXT UK Tag Team Titles. I feel like that’s something we should propably get done, since I like to think of us as pioneers of NXT UK. So i feel like it would only be right if one day we held the NXT UK tag titles. And maybe we would be the first team to hold both NXT and NXT UK tag team titles.
Moving to the US to join NXT, RAW or Smackdown full time :
I’m always open to the idea. But I feel like at the moment, I have so much left to give to NXT UK that I want to be able to give as much to NXT UK as I can before I move on to NXT or RAW or Smackdown.
Tyler Bate also talks about his favorite video game, his favorite wrestlers growing up, the pressure of being NXT UK Champion at 19 years old, his training for his big match against Walter at NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff and more.
