AS Monaco this afternoon announced the contract extension of Portuguese international attacker Rony Lopes until 2022.
Lopes, who joined the club from Manchester City in 2015, but initially sent the player out on loan to Lille. The former Benfica youth product exploded onto the Ligue 1 scene last season and established himself as the most important player at Monaco.
ASM have missed him throughout the entirety of this season so far through injury.

Club Vice President Vadim Vasilyev had the following to say on the news:
“With time and lots of work, Rony has become an important player for the team and an example for our young players. This extension is a show of confidence and reciprocal attachment. We hope that Rony will be able to return to the squad very shortly to help the team again.”
Lopes also reacted to his contract being extended:
“I am very happy here, in Monaco. I want to thank the club representatives, the staff, my team-mates and the fans for their confidence in me and their support. Last season changed a lot of things for me. We must continue to go after more things. In the meantime, I am working quickly to be back on the pitch and to be able to help my team-mates.”
