Speaking to L’Équipe, FC Lorient attacker Alexis Claude-Maurice declared his desire to move to Bundesliga side Gladbach this summer.
“I would have liked to have gone up with the club that formed me at youth level. I feel like it is the moment to leave, to join a club that is playing at a higher level… I want to join Gladbach. They are a club that focus on young players, there is a good structure, they are playing in the Europa League. I like their project & it suits me.”
The newspaper intimates that Claude-Maurice’s clan has felt the need to go on the record with the player’s genuine desires as they are afraid that FC Lorient will seek to sell him to a club in the Premier League that he does not wish to join.
The report makes no mention of Arsenal, but discusses at length how Willie McKay has been bringing FCL multiple offers from West Ham, when the Hammers haven’t even been in contact with the player’s entourage and they do not want to make the move there.
L’Équipe suggest that Gladbach have offered €8m, whilst a Lorient source indicated: “We have received English offers worth €15m, we want to reach that sort of level.”
