Speaking in an interview with RMC, ex-Lyon and current Beijing Guoan manager Bruno Genesio looked back on his time at the head of Les Gones.
“I left without bitterness, with great respect for the institution, especially for my president and a load of key figures who are at the club, with whom I am staying in touch with. I do not usually speak, I have not spoken about these three and a half years since I left.”

“I read certain things that hurt me, coming from certain players. I would prefer not to comment on them because in football, you have to retain a lot of humility. Everything goes very quickly, in one way or another. That is part of football and this world.”
Amongst the player’s that criticised Genesio was Dutch winger Memphis Depay, who told L’Équipe one month ago:
“The change was necessary, I feel refreshed, it was what we needed.”
Genesio has responded:
“That did not hurt me. It merely confirmed what I thought about this industry and certain players. It is purely anecdotal for me. I have heard things that make me smile softly, notably relating to respect and discipline. The player that this relates to (Depay) turned up one week late last year, on his own volition, against the desire of the president and myself. But I don’t have any problem with Memphis anymore, I know him. He is someone who has this certain personality. But I have turned the page today, I think about my new club and I hope that Lyon will obtain the best possible results, because the club deserves them, people at the head of this team deserve them, the city deserves them.”
