Foot Mercato, Globo and L’Équipe all report this evening that Ligue 1 side Lyon have fended off a last-gasp attempt from Spanish side Atletico Madrid to sign 22-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
Owing to a right of first refusal arrangement that Atleti have with the player’s club, Athletico Paranaense, Diego Simeone’s side were notified that OL had had a €25m + 20% sell-on fee percentage clause offering accepted to sign the captain of Brazil’s team for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Despite the late seduction operation embarked upon by Atleti, Guimarães has decided to honour his word and stick to his guns, having already agreed personal terms with Lyon before the La Liga club matched their proposal.

Lyon sources tonight are underlining the primordial role that Sporting Director Juninho played when he made a call to the player yesterday to convince him not to consider Atletico Madrid’s bid.
He is expected to undergo a medical in Colombia, where he is currently playing in a tournament to qualify Brazil for this summer’s Olympic Games, before joining up with OL in the middle of February, when that competition is over.
