PSG vs Dortmund will be played behind closed doors

The Paris police have announced that Wednesday’s Round of 16 2nd leg Champions’ League clash between PSG and Dortmund will go ahead, but behind closed doors.

This decision follows a directive from the French government handed down last night, which banned congregations of 1,000 or more people in public or contained spaces.

The critical 6 Nations clash between France & Ireland scheduled for this weekend has additionally been postponed.

PSG have endured a less than ideal preparation for Wednesday’s clash, with their match on Saturday vs Strasbourg being postponed with less than 24 hours notice owing to fears over the spread of COVID-19.

Les Parisiens must overturn a 2-1 deficit sustained in the 1st leg at the Signal Iduna Park which occurred 3 weeks ago.

Marquinhos and other PSG players have in recent days stressed their preference to postpone any clash if the decision from the authorities was for the game to occur behind closed doors, preferring to play in front of their fans over anything else. They clearly will not be getting their way, as UEFA have refused a request for the game’s date to be moved.

PSG have confirmed on their website that they accept the decision from local authorities to play the game behind closed doors:

“The club thanks all the fans for their understanding and their support for the team.”
